PRC Briefs UN Missions in Geneva on Atrocities in Northern Gaza, Calls for Arms Embargo on Israel

Geneva – In light of the escalating atrocities in Northern Gaza, the grave humanitarian crisis unfolding, and the recently revealed “Generals’ Plan,” the Palestinian Return Centre (PRC) has submitted an urgent briefing to all UN member state missions based in Geneva. The briefing calls for immediate action to impose an arms embargo on Israel to prevent further violations of international humanitarian law.

The document highlights alarming UN findings, which reveal that nearly 70 percent of those killed in Gaza are women and children. The Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) has verified that 44 percent of the fatalities are children, underscoring the devastating impact on vulnerable populations.

PRC's call also addresses recent statements from Israeli officials confirming plans to permanently displace Palestinians from Northern Gaza. These actions, coupled with the revelations of the “Generals’ Plan” – a systematic strategy for the forced displacement of Palestinians and the annexation of their lands – demonstrate a deliberate framework of violations amounting to war crimes, including forcible transfer and the use of humanitarian aid as a weapon.

Recognizing a growing international movement for accountability, the PRC’s briefing aligns with the recent appeal from a coalition of 52 nations, primarily from the Global South, for the UN to adopt an arms embargo on Israel. The PRC is urging UN member states to act decisively to address these violations and prevent further escalation of the crisis.

“By delivering this briefing directly to missions in Geneva, we are emphasizing the urgency of the situation,” said a PRC spokesperson. “It is imperative that the international community takes a firm stand against the ongoing atrocities in Gaza, dismantles plans such as the ‘Generals’ Plan,’ and holds Israel accountable for its actions under international law.”

The PRC briefing seeks to galvanize global efforts to address the ongoing humanitarian and legal violations in Gaza, urging UN member states to prioritize the protection of civilian lives and to support measures that ensure justice and accountability.
