The Palestinian Return Centre (PRC) has written to the UK Foreign Secretary, David Lammy MP, to express grave concern over the intensifying genocidal assault on Gaza and Israel’s renewed expansionist ambitions.
In recent weeks, the Israeli occupation has escalated its attacks on the Gaza Strip through sustained airstrikes and a deepening ground invasion. These actions have resulted in the killing of hundreds of civilians, including women and children, and the further destruction of already-devastated infrastructure. The population of Gaza is now facing a catastrophic humanitarian situation, with urgent needs for food, medical assistance, and shelter.
Concurrently, Israel has signalled its intent to seize and colonise further Palestinian territory. This pattern of settler colonial expansion not only violates international law but also deepens the long-standing injustice suffered by the Palestinian people and threatens regional stability.
In light of these alarming developments, the PRC urges the UK Government to take immediate and principled action. We call on the UK to recall its ambassador from Israel, sending a clear diplomatic signal that the current actions are unacceptable. The UK must also exert pressure on the Israeli government to immediately end its military offensive and halt any further plans for annexation, in full compliance with international humanitarian law, including the Fourth Geneva Convention.
Furthermore, PRC urges the UK to impose an immediate arms embargo on Israel. By halting the export of weapons and military equipment, the UK would demonstrate that it will not be complicit in the ongoing violations of human rights and international law.
It is no longer sufficient to express concern while the people of Gaza face annihilation. The international community—and the United Kingdom in particular—must take concrete and courageous steps to end the unfolding genocide and reaffirm the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination and dignity.
