London – Friday, 16 May 2025
The Palestinian Return Centre (PRC) in London has sent an urgent briefing to Members of the UK Parliament, shedding light on the horrific crime committed by Israeli occupation forces in their strike on the European Hospital in Khan Younis, southern Gaza, on 13 May. The attack killed at least 28 people and injured dozens more, including patients, medical staff, journalists, and British medical volunteers.
The briefing noted that the hospital compound was struck by six bombs in quick succession, destroying its medical infrastructure and rendering it completely out of service. As a result, thousands of patients — particularly cancer patients — have been deprived of access to life-saving care, as the entire healthcare system in Gaza nears total collapse.
The PRC also relayed firsthand testimonies from British doctors affiliated with the UK-based organisation IDEALS, who were present during the attack. They described scenes of chaos and devastation, highlighting that the intensive care unit was full, including critically ill children, with no alternative facilities available for evacuation.
The briefing further underscored the systematic destruction of civilian infrastructure within the hospital, including water and sewage systems and ambulances, as well as the targeting of civil defence crews by Israeli drones as they attempted to rescue the wounded.
The PRC referenced a statement by Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors Without Borders), which confirmed that the European Gaza Hospital — the last specialised cancer treatment facility in the Strip — had been rendered completely non-operational following the attack. MSF described the hospital as the final lifeline in a health system crippled by siege and bombardment.
In its briefing, the PRC urged British MPs to:
The Centre concluded by stressing that the targeting of the European Hospital is not an isolated event, but part of a repeated and systematic campaign to destroy Gaza’s healthcare infrastructure. The PRC warned that international silence in the face of such grave violations amounts to complicity and called on British MPs to take firm action to uphold international law and hold perpetrators of war crimes accountable.
