PRC to UN Special Adviser: Gaza Has Crossed the Threshold of Genocide

The Palestinian Return Centre (PRC) addressed Ms. Virginia Gamba, the United Nations Acting Special Adviser on the Prevention of Genocide, during an interactive dialogue held under Item 3 of the 59th Session of the UN Human Rights Council.

In a statement delivered by Dr. Tarek Hamoud, the PRC warned that the situation in Gaza has already crossed the threshold of irreversible harm, stressing that Israel’s ongoing campaign has entered a final genocidal phase marked by mass killings, widespread destruction, and systematic forced displacement.

The statement highlighted findings from UN investigations confirming that Israel has committed acts consistent with genocide, including the deliberate infliction of living conditions intended to destroy the population as a group, and the prevention of births through targeted attacks on women and healthcare services.

The Centre emphasised that these violations are not isolated excesses but reflect a deliberate genocidal intent, posing the urgent question: “What more evidence does the UN need to act?”

PRC called on the Acting Special Adviser’s office to take immediate steps, including issuing a public statement affirming that the situation in Gaza meets the legal threshold for genocide, briefing the Secretary-General and Security Council on the gravity and urgency of the crisis, and recommending concrete measures such as sanctions, legal accountability, and an end to the ongoing destruction and displacement.

Dr. Hamoud concluded his remarks by stating: “This is not a moment for caution. Gaza is vanishing in plain sight.”
