Geneva— The Palestinian Return Centre (PRC), in an oral statement delivered before the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva, affirmed that Israel’s targeting of Palestinian negotiators in Doha is a deliberate attempt to “prolong the war.”
Speaking under Item 7 of the Council’s 60th Session, PRC stressed that the Israeli attack constituted a direct assault on “the integrity of mediation efforts and the principle of peaceful settlement of disputes, as enshrined in the UN Charter and customary international law.” The Centre added that such conduct not only undermines regional stability but also violates “the very foundations upon which the Human Rights Council itself is built.”
The statement was made in the context of condemning the 9 September 2025 Israeli strike in Doha, which targeted a meeting of Palestinian negotiators discussing a U.S. ceasefire proposal. PRC noted that the attack violated the sovereignty of a mediating state and resulted in casualties, including the death of a Qatari officer.
PRC urged the Council to assume its responsibilities by adopting a resolution that condemns this crime, demands an immediate halt to attacks on negotiators and mediators, and calls for an independent international investigation to ensure accountability.
The Centre concluded by stressing that “peace is not achieved by bombing negotiators, but through dialogue, justice, and respect for international law.”
