International Palestinian Conference this weekend in London

The Palestinian Return Centre (PRC) is in the latest stages of its preparation for the International Conference, “The Ongoing Nakba”, which is the inaugural event of Palestine memorial week starting 15th-22nd Jan 2011; and will be held on Saturday 1 5th of January.
The conference is expected to attract a large audience especially those from the global solidarity movement. It will highlight many key aspects of Palestinian cause, examining plight of Palestinian refugees, Israel as an apartheid state, the Nakba and media. Around 17 academics, politicians, journalists and researchers will participate in the conference which will compose of four sessions. Opening sessions will be inaugurated by Majed Al Zeer, PRC General Director and Irish Minster Tom Kitt. Joining them will be the Palestinian Ambassador to the UK, Manuel Hassassian, Andy Slaughter MP, and John Mchugo chair of Liberal demarcates friends of Palestine group.First session will be chaired by Daud Abdallah. Dr. Salman Abu Sitta, a renowned Palestinian scholar, author of Atlas of Palestine, will speak on the Mechanisms of Expulsion. Professor Ghada Karmi will speak about bringing the Nakba to an end.The second session will be with our unique guest and keynote speaker, Mads Gilbert.He will focus on his unique experience about Gaza and the new book he released, titled, “Eyes on Gaza”. The session will be chaired by Baroness Jenny Tonge, where also British journalist Ben White will speak about, “Forceful displacement and expulsion in Israel”International law and Palestine will be addressed in the third session. The session will be chaired by activist Ibrahim Hewitt. Dr.Hosam Hafez (Legal Expert) will focus on Palestinian Rights under international law. Whilst, Dr. Paul Larudee (Founder of Free Gaza Movement and Human Rights Activist), will talk about Strategic outlines of solidarity campaign.Furthermore, Labour Party Politician and Former MP Phyllis Starkey will focus on Lobbying for Justice and Rights. Rawan Al Damin, filmmaker, will speak about her Documentary, “Al Nakba”. PRC senior researcher Nasim Ahmed will take part in conference sessions.
